Background

Solgaard was founded in 2016 with a Kickstarter campaign for the Lifepack, a solar-powered, antitheft backpack, by Adrian Solgaard, a Norwegian-Canadian entrepreneur. The company is built on the values of making life seamless, blurring the lines between work and play and exploring the world all while making a positive impact on the environment. 

In September 2018, Solgaard launched its first product made entirely out of ocean-bound plastic. This decision was made after Adrian was surfing in Southeast Asia and was confronted firsthand with the global plastic pollution crisis. A solar-powered backpack is great - but how can we make a bigger impact on the world? That's where Shore-Tex, our proprietary fabric made with ocean-bound plastic, came in. 

For every product sold, a portion of the profits goes to funding projects like Sungai Watch to pull an extra 5lbs of plastic, or 229plastic bottles, from of at-risk areas. Solgaard has kept the equivalent of 45 million plastic bottles from entering the ocean to date, and Solgaard is working on a fully recyclable backpack that has a full end-of-life solution for 2024.
