COMING OUT TO MY GRANDMOTHER

Below is the letter I wrote my grandmother when I came out to her. She is a Korean Catholic woman who immigrated here in the lat 1960s and I was absolutely terrified to tell her about my transness.

Please note that this letter is from 2015, before I’d really found all the words to describe myself. I would now NOT say “I was born female” and instead describe this as “I was assigned female at birth.” I would also not say “transitioning to male” and instead describe this as, “I am transitioning and changing my body for alignment.”
